Future iPhones Might Charge Accessories Through Their Screens

Reverse wireless charging is not a new concept. It allows you to charge accessories by simply placing them on the back of your phone, but Apple may physically flip things around in the future.

According to a recently discovered Apple patent, the corporation is working on a new technology that would allow iPhones and iPads to charge accessories through their screens. The p atent was discovered on the US Patent & Trademark Office portal, and it goes into great detail on the novel reverse wireless charging mechanism.

This capability, according to the patent, will be powered by a double-sided wireless charging component that can reverse charge from the front and back. This charging mechanism will be surrounded on all sides by a metallic shield.

Even when an attachment is charging through the screen, one portion of the screen will stay functional, making this a better application than ordinary reverse wireless charging. It is unknown whether the screen’s charging area will have any display output when charging.

It will be used to charge accessories such as AirPods, Apple Watches, and Apple Pencils. It remains to be seen whether third-party accessories will be supported.

But, as always, this is just a patent that may never see the light of day, so take this with a grain of salt.
