The iPhone 13 Pro Max represents the result of Apple’s efforts over the last few years, with the largest, quickest display, and longest battery life of any iPhone to date. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is, however, the most costly iPhone currently available, and unlike last year, there are no upgrades exclusive to the Pro Max edition this year.

Is it worth it to pay a little more for a larger display and longer battery life, or should you save a little money and get the equally powerful iPhone 13 Pro instead? Keep reading to find out.

Design and build

  • Slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor
  • 20% smaller Face ID notch
  • New color finishes

The iPhone 13 Pro Max is the biggest of the iPhone 13 series, both in terms of display size and general mass – the difference between an iPhone 12 Pro and an iPhone 13 Pro Max is considerable. It’s something you get used to quickly, but when I initially got my hands on the smartphone, I wasn’t expecting such a heavy experience.

That’s not to say it’s not a beautiful piece of technology; if you enjoy the iPhone 12’s industrial design, you’ll adore the iPhone 13 Pro Max because it’s essentially the same. Like its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has stainless steel bezels, frosted glass back, and an edge-to-edge display. On the front, it’s also protected by IP68 dust and water resistance, and also ceramic shield technology.

Specs and Performance of iPhone 13 Pro Max

  • A15 Bionic is unbeaten
  • New 1TB storage option for videographers
  • Frequent iOS updates

Another iPhone implies another Apple-designed chip, and the 5nm A15 Bionic in the iPhone 13 Pro Max is no exception.

Even when compared to top-end Android smartphones, the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s A15 Bionic is just unmatched in terms of pure power – and some of our benchmark results are far ahead of the competition, notably in the CPU department, as our Geekbench 5 tests reveal.

Battery life and charging

  • True multi-day battery life
  • 15W MagSafe charging
  • Improved wired charging speeds, but still not Android-level

The iPhone 13 Pro has always had the best battery life of the range, and it continues to do so with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but it also manages to give actual all-day (or even multi-day) battery life, depending on usage.
