San Francisco: WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is working on a couple of new features that are expected to be released this year. According to a new report, the app is currently testing a new feature that will allow users to listen to voice notes even after closing the chat window.
Users can currently listen to voice notes in the chat window via the app. When the user closes the chat window, the voice note is also closed. The upcoming feature, on the other hand, may allow users to play voice notes in the background.

According to WABetainfo, WhatsApp is releasing a new global voice note player on iOS beta that will allow users to listen to a voice message while in another chat. According to reports, when users swipe back or switch to a different chat, the voice note they are listening to will not be dismissed.
Some iOS beta testers, including WhatsApp Business beta, have already received this feature.
According to the screenshot shared by the WhatsApp feature tracker, when a user begins to listen to a voice note, they can continue to listen even if they open another chat window. A new pause button appears at the top of the screen in the screenshot. Users can now stop, play, dismiss the voice note, and view a progress bar with this new option. The feature is currently in development, and WhatsApp has made no official announcements about it.

Meanwhile, according to a recent report, WhatsApp for iOS will remove “Broadcast Lists” and “New Group” from the chats list in a future update. When users tap the same button “Start New Chat” at the top right, a new entry point for “Broadcast” within the contacts list will be available.
According to the report, this is planned for a future update and there is no set release date.
