The Xiaomi 12 series, comprising the standard Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro, is already available in China. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra, the lineup’s most powerful phone, has yet to be released, but a fresh rumour from Xiaomiui claims that it may never see the light of day.

The Xiaomi 12 series has the model numbers L3 for the Xiaomi 12, L2 for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, and L1 for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, but the L1 may not be for the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. According to Xiaomiui, the L1 model number is for the Mi Mix 5 Pro, while the L1A model number is for the incoming vanilla Mi Mix 5.
So, why doesn’t the Xiaomi 12 Ultra have the L1 model number? According to the article, this is because the phone has not yet been licenced, which means that it may never launch, or will not come very soon.
This rumour was backed by Twitter tipster Teme, who published a tweet stating that the Mi Mix 5 Pro will be released this year rather than the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. Xiaomi appears to be giving the Mi Mix lineup the attention it deserves.

Furthermore, the model numbers 2203121AC and 2203121C are assigned to the Mix 5 and 5 Pro, respectively. The 22 in these model numbers alludes to the year 2022, and the 03 refers to March, which is consistent with prior reports pointing to a March release date for the next Mix series.
However, these leaks are not supported by any official information from Xiaomi, therefore we urge treating this information with caution.
