Your Apple Watch Will Soon Let You Report an Emergency

Apple will soon release a new feature for its smartwatches that will include satellite connectivity, as well as functionality for emergency texting and SOS response.

According to a Bloomberg story, such a smartwatch with emergency functionality would be available shortly.

Satellite connectivity was rumored to be included with the iPhone 13, but it was not included. Now, Apple wants to release it alongside the iPhone 14 series, allowing users to exchange brief messages over satellite networks without the need for a carrier network.

Users will be able to send brief messages using Apple’s ‘Emergency Message via Contacts’ feature in locations with limited or no cellular service. Inside the Messages app, the new system would appear as grey bubbles.

Another feature of the system will allow users to report a crisis to authorities, such as a car collision. Users would also be asked if search and rescue services are required by the system.

The corporation has yet to confirm the impending feature.
